Urban Decay Vice Special Effects Topcoat

I honestly can’t believe where May has gone. It is crazy to think that we are nearly half way through the year. My birthday was almost 2 weeks ago and it feels like months already. For my birthday, I was surprised with two of the Special Effects Topcoats from Urban Decay. I had been eyeing them up since they were announced and was super excited to try them out. The first shade that I decided to try is Copycat.

The packaging of this is very similar to Urban Decay’s Liquid lipsticks, just with a brush in the lid instead of a wand. The bottle being clear makes it so handy to see which shade is inside and looks all pretty stored in my makeup drawers.

In the bottle, Copycat is a mixture of chunky and fine, red and holo glitter pieces that would look good over any nude or pink shade. As these topcoats look different depending on the colour used underneath, I thought I would see how Copycat works with a selection of different lipsticks.

The top half of the swatches above are showing the lipstick on it’s own and the bottom is with Copycat layered on top. As the topcoat is so similar in shade, it only makes a subtle difference to the first two lipsticks, but it does give the next two colours more of a pink tone, especially the last one.I found that Copycat was a lot less red than it looks in the bottle. Applied, it looks more like a salmon pink with glitter pieces scattered throughout, as opposed to the coppery red that it appeared before.

This Topcoat was really easy to apply, after popping on my chosen lipstick first, I then brushed this on top to give it a different look. In the above photo, I used MAC ‘Hot Gossip’ as a base as this was very similar to the Topcoat and I only wanted to give it a very subtle change. As you can see it was verrrry subtle and just added a slight glittery effect. I kinda like it though, that’s the good thing about these, if you don’t like the effect you just change the colour underneath.

This lasted on me for about 4 hours and only really started to fade with my lipstick. I can imagine this being a little hit and miss though depending on the formula and longevity of the lipstick used underneath.

I really like this Topcoat and think that it will jazz up my lipstick collection, when I am feeling a little extra sparkle. Copycat is one of the more subtle colours in the collection, I already have Monarchy to try next and I reckon Circuit would look amazing on too.

Have you tried these Topcoats? What did you think
