We Got Married!

Sooooo as mentioned at the very end of my last post, me and Lewis did a little thing and GOT MARRIED. These past few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind and I am so happy I can finally share it all with you. I hope you are ready for my wedding journey…

We have always been in love with the idea of eloping. Don’t get me wrong, I love, love, love going to weddings but the thought of having a big wedding myself and being centre of attention has always filled me with total dread. Obviously, everyone is different and I know people love throwing a huge bash and I love that for them, but it has just never been for me. Hit me up with a guest invite though and I will be there! Now me and Lewis have been together for 14 years and engaged for 7 and to be honest with you, I never really knew when we were going to get married. We have plodded along quite happily, but recently I knew the time was right and we should just go for it.

We had booked our holiday to Crete months ago, way before this idea had even surfaced. My mum was the one that actually had the idea of getting married before we went to Crete and taking photos there and since the day she said it, it was all I could think about. I had always wanted to get married abroad, but it just wasn’t feasible for various reasons, so doing it this way, we could get the best of both worlds. We didn’t think we would get everything sorted in time, but after checking the availability at our local registry offices, they had a slot that was perfect for us. We only had around 6 weeks to plan, but as I wanted to keep everything pretty simple we knew we could do it. We slowly started to make arrangements and the only thing that we couldn’t seem to sort was my dress. Time started ticking and I honestly thought I would have to give in and pick one that I wasn’t 100% on, they were either too big or too small, pretty much how everything is when I am clothes shopping anyway. Finally we found this little beauty. It wasn’t completely how I wanted it, in fact at one point it did have black flowers all over it. Me and my mum tag teamed it though and together we managed to alter it to make it perfect. We managed to sort everything else with weeks to spare and it all seemed to come together.

The day finally came and I was a bag of nerves. I got ready at my parents and my hair, makeup and everything went exactly how I wanted it for once. I was so relieved as normally, I flail under pressure aha! The day was perfect, even if we did have to keep the whole thing secret. Both my parents and Lewis’ parents were at the ceremony and it was exactly how we wanted it. We had decided we weren’t going to tell anyone until we took our photos in Crete, so after this magical day everything went back to normal. That was definitely the hardest part. We took our rings off and kept the secret for another 2 weeks, it sounds quite mad as I am typing it now hahaha! How neither of us slipped up, I will never, ever know. We are like secret keeping pros.

My mum and dad went to Crete before us and had the mission to find the perfect spot for us to take photos. They really didn’t disappoint, as when we arrived, they had it all planned out. They found the most beautiful little spot for us and at sunset we made our way down for the photos. I gave my dad a quick photography course and he took the loveliest pictures for us. We then celebrated the night away with dinner and cocktails which was perfect.

I know eloping isn’t for everyone, but it was exactly how I dreamt it would be. It was the most perfect time for me and Lewis and everything that we were hoping for. In a way it meant we had 2 celebrations too, here and abroad. The celebrations won’t stop there either, as we will be having more parties, dinners and catch ups with friends and family too. People close to us knew that when we eventually got married, we would elope, so thankfully everyone has been really understanding. If not, the answer would be tough anyway lol! We have been absolutely blown away with the messages and love we have received from everyone. I am honestly so, so happy. Everything is perfect and I wouldn’t change a thing. ❤
