Urban Decay Heavy Metals Metallic Eyeshadow Palette

Urban Decay Heavy Metals Metallic Eyeshadow Palette

I am a teeny weeny bit late to the party with this Urban Decay ‘Heavy Metals’ palette, it was complete love at first sight and when I saw the initial photos going around, I knew I needed it straightaway. I did get it before Christmas, but time has completely run away with me, so I have only just been able to write my thoughts up about it. I haven’t been able to put it down though, so spoiler alert: it is a beautiful.

The packaging is a bright mirrored purple colour, which is really nice, just soooooo tricky to take photos of ha. If you have any tips for taking photos of mirrored packaging, please let me know as I struggle every single time! It has a slight wavy effect to it on top which I quite like too. The eyeshadow tray sits inside this shell and pushes out from the side, the tray is so light to hold too, which is nice if you are like me and usually hold the palette whilst putting your makeup on.

Up until now, the Moondust palette has always been my favourite. This one is just something else though, the colours are just beautiful and there is definitely something for everyone here. On the left side, are 10 colourful shades and on the right are 10 neutral shades – all with a metallic or glittery element to them.

Urban Decay have developed a new formula just for the Heavy Metals palette and it is just perfect. The pigment of each eyeshadow is outstanding, on the first touch each shadow is really bold and then the colour just gets more vibrant as you add more layers.

The more I swatched this on my hand, the more I have fallen in love with it and I think you will see why. Starting with the coloured side of the palette…

Ground – black, with silver glitter / Aluminium – a deep gunmetal / Spandex – a shimmering violet / Dive – a silvery sky blue.

These are the darkest colours in the palette, but they are all so wearable. I will probably use Ground the least, only because there are so many other beautiful colours to choose from I will end up going through them first.

Metalhead – a bright fuchsia / Punk Rock – a deep rose / Mullet – an olive green / Amp – a bright turquoise.

These are my favourite shades from the coloured side of the palette, they are all so pretty and will have lots of use from me. Punk Rock and Amp are just beautiful.

Twisted – a bright glittery gold / Glamrock – a true liquid silver / Bass – a smooth bronze / Glory – a smooth vibrant gold.

Twisted/Glamrock are from the colourful side of the palette and Bass/Glory are from the neutral side. These work so well together and looking at them like this reminds me of Egyptian jewellery.

Demo – a glittery bronze / Starfire – a smooth copper / Afterparty – a bold rose / Angelfire – an iridescent pastel gold

These are the boldest shades from the neutral side of the palette. Afterparty is just gorgeous and Starfire is just like crushed gold flakes.

Roadie – a deep chocolate / Maiden – a sunny gold / Scream – rose gold / Acoustic / a pale vintage gold

These shades are super pretty. I love how subtle Scream is and Acoustic is a lovely highlight shade.

The way that all of these colours catch the light is just perfect. It is one of the only palettes I own, where I love all of the colours and I have trouble deciding which one to use when I open it up. I find that they are best applied with a wet eyeshadow brush, as they pick up the colour a lot better this way.

As you can probably tell by now, I am a huge fan of the Heavy Metals palette and personally cannot fault it at all. It has such a nice mixture of colours and is perfect for a glitter lover like me. Obviously, if you are a matte fan, then this palette probably isn’t for you, but if not, glitter lovers rejoice!

Have you tried this palette? Are you in love as much as me?

Wow the swatches look absolutely stunning! I’m more of a neutral matte eyeshadow kind of girl personally, but I still love reading about different palettes! Great review, these eyeshadows look so amazingly pigmented.

Really love all those colours. I think my favourite colour is ‘Spandex’. I am a bit broke too though till I get paid again, but may treat myself when I do get paid :0)
