NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream - Prague

I will be honest with you, before this post I had never tried anything from NYX before. I had heard of the brand, but no shops nearby to me sold it and I like a good old swatch before I buy makeup. Well that was until my local Boots opened up the biggest makeup counter that I have ever seen, all full of NYX makeup. After covering my hand in all kinds of red, pink and nude splodges I left with a Soft Matte Lip Cream in Prague.

I could have brought a LOT, LOT, LOT more as the prices are pretty reasonable, but as I hadn’t tried NYX before I wanted to see if it is worth the hype, plus the stands were heaving and I was getting frustrated with people.

The packaging is nothing special, it’s simple and does the job nicely. I quite like that you can see the shade throughout, it helps with my storage and being in a rush in the morning – I can just grab it super quickly. The lip cream is applied the same as a gloss, with an applicator wand. Now before I continue, I am rubbish at applying lip products like this. I have a scar on my top lip and the product just seeps into that, so I decided to start applying with the wand, but use a brush just to neaten it up slightly.

The wand is easy enough to control, but I found it did tend to pick up a little too much product on the edges so I had to try and even it out slightly.

Prague is a nice and bold raspberry shade. Nice and pink, but not too bold that you can’t wear it all of the time.

I am really impressed with the pigmentation on this, it was pretty much the perfect colour straightaway. One swipe was all that was needed to cover my lips and then the brush strokes on the edges to even it out. After a few seconds, it was dry. Unlike other matte products I have tried before, this didn’t feel tight or anything on the lips, you could barely feel that it had dried.

My only niggle is that it didn’t last too long on me at all. After about 2 hours, it had faded quite a bit and I was left with just the outline covered. I like my lip products to last a little longer as I always forget to top them up! I’ve heard that the other finishes may last a little longer, so I may try one of those next.

I think it’s safe to say this won’t be the last time I visit the NYX counter. What products would you recommend? ♥

NYX used to have a UK website before they partnered with Boots, and I'd had a couple of SMLC from it but I never really liked them that much. It wasn't until this year where I wore them again and then I bought more colours that I was kinda like, actually, I really like them! I think they are a nice matte for everyday because they aren't too drying and you don't feel them on your lips. I agree the lasting power isn't the best, but I find them really easy to reapply. I think the size of the applicator to be perfect too. I really want to get more colours! xx
